Scott Thomas Balfe

Born on the same day as the famed Hudson River School painter Thomas Cole, Scott Thomas Balfe is often teased about the coincidence. Although more than a 150 years separate their births, their equal passion for the Catskill Mountains has inspired both Cole and Balfe to create luminous landscape paintings. Balfe resides in the Catskill Mountains of New York; he moved to the Catskills to be in constant touch with the motifs. After painting many of the same locations that the Hudson River School artists painted, Balfe returns to the studio to complete the plein-aire painting.
